Sealants

ProductUse
Green Glue Noiseproofing CompoundBetween gypsum layers (constrained layer damping)
Tremco Acoustical SealantPerimeter sealing, penetrations, joints
Tremco Fyre-SilFire-rated penetration sealing — all conduit, duct, and cable penetrations through acoustic walls. 25mm depth minimum both sides.

Ceiling Grid

ProductTypeSpecification
Armstrong Prelude 24mm exposed T-gridmain_runnerHeavy-duty for studio use, 1200mm centers, hung with 12-gauge galvanized wire
Armstrong Prelude cross tee 600mmcross_teeSnap into main runners at 600mm intervals
Wall angle / perimeter trimperimeterInstall level at 2.75m from finished floor — this defines acoustic ceiling height

Above-Tile Insulation

ProductUseInstallation
Rockwool ProRox SL 930 (100mm)Laid on top of all ceiling tiles — prevents flanking through plenumCut batts to 610x610mm, lay directly on tiles, butt joints, no gaps
Rockwool RW3 (100mm)Alternative — higher density for better low-frequency absorption in plenumSame as above; heavier so verify grid can support combined weight

Plenum Barriers

ProductPurposeInstallation
15mm Knauf Soundshield Plus + acoustic sealantPrevents sound flanking over partition walls through shared plenumGypsum fixed to partition head, sealed to slab above with Tremco sealant

Electrical Boxes Behind Acoustic Panels

Critical Construction Detail

Absorption panels are 50mm thick. A standard back box recessed into gypsum is now 50mm behind the panel face — inaccessible, unpluggable, and a code violation in most jurisdictions (outlets must remain accessible).

Solution by Wall Type

WallRecommendationReason
Studio north (camera wall, Wall 1)Option A — Box extension ringClean flush finish, no visible gap on camera
VO Live / Control (non-camera, Wall 5/6)Option B — Panel gapFaster install, acoustic impact negligible
All STC-rated partitions (Wall 5/6/7)Putty pads + staggered boxes mandatoryRegardless of option chosen

Option A — Box Extension Ring (50mm)

  1. Install standard back box in gypsum wall at correct height
  2. Fit 50mm metal extension ring to front of back box
  3. Panel cut-out: measure ring face exactly, cut clean rectangle in panel
  4. Outlet face sits flush with panel face
  5. Panel attaches via z-clips (NOT adhesive) — must remain removable for service

Option B — Panel Gap (15cm Clear Zone)

  1. Install outlet at correct height (45cm AFF standard, 265cm AFF green screen)
  2. Leave 15cm clear zone around each outlet — no panel placed over outlet
  3. Surround outlet with panels on three sides
  4. Acoustic impact: −0.11 m² absorption per outlet gap (acceptable)

STC Partition Rules — Mandatory on All Partition Walls (Wall 5, 6, 7)

  • NO back-to-back outlets on same partition wall — reduces STC by 3–8 dB
  • STAGGER outlets minimum 300mm: if east face at 45cm AFF, west face at 90cm AFF
  • ACOUSTIC PUTTY PAD behind every box (OSI SpecSeal or equivalent)
  • Z-CLIP panel attachment only on walls with outlets — no adhesive (need access)
  • CONDUIT SEAL: Tremco acoustic sealant around every conduit entry point at gypsum face

Stagebox Penetrations (SB-01, SB-02)

  • 32mm steel conduit through wall
  • Pack annular gap with Rockwool + Tremco sealant, seal both wall faces
  • Conduit must not be rigid-coupled to wall on both sides — one end flexible connector
